Occ Ge Requirements

Students may choose to follow the general educational model specific to a university campus. Articulation agreements also exist between Orange Coast college courses and general training requirements at private colleges and universities. The purpose of a course-to-course agreement is to determine whether a particular course taken at one college meets a requirement of another college. For example, if a community college course is recognized as “comparable” to a university course, it may meet the same general training and/or primary preparation requirements as the university course. To provide broad exposure in the general educational experience, students are encouraged to engage in factual, creative, and intuitive discoveries in various fields. Distribution requirements expose the student to a variety of disciplines. Some private and out-of-state colleges and universities accept completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Program (IGETC) and/or California State University (CSU GE) general education requirements to meet the core (general education) requirements of their campus. Major preparation agreements establish courses that meet the requirements of a lower division for a major at a four-year college or university. IGETC or CSU GE certification can allow students to transfer from Orange Coast College without having to meet additional basic requirements (GE) or courses at college or university four years after transfer. Articulation is the process of evaluating courses or a sequence of courses to determine whether a particular course offered at a “sending” educational institution (such as Orange Coast College) meets the requirements for admission, credit transfer, general education, lower division primary preparation, and/or elective credit at a “host” educational institution (such as the California State University System, the University of California or a private university).

The requirements of general educational distribution allow the student to focus in depth on the 9 outcomes through exposure to a variety of disciplines. This ensures that articulated courses taken and completed at Orange Coast College count towards undergraduate requirements when moving to a four-year college or university. Meet the lower league`s main requirements for your major as well as general training requirements. Students should review the GE level and below major requirements published in the college/university catalog and consult with an admissions counselor to confirm whether and how the IGETC or CSU GE degree can meet some or all of the transfer institution`s GE requirements for a bachelor`s program and to determine whether the courses taken for IGETC or CSU GE meet the primary requirements of the lower division. Meet the lower league`s main requirements for your major as well as general training requirements. Use ASSIST to identify your top needs in the lower division for the specific CPUs you want to transfer. It is also important to visit the respective campus website for more information about the major.

For example, the following campuses have a very specific selection for the major. Use ASSIST to identify your top needs in the lower league for the specific CSUs you want to transfer. The CSU General Education Wideth is a course template that community college students can use to meet the general educational requirements of each California State University campus. Several California private colleges and universities offer transfer credit equivalencies (or courses) or transfer guides that do not constitute a formal agreement between Orange Coast College and the transfer institution. Transfer guides and course and credit equivalencies are not articulation arrangements and should only be used in consultation with an Orange Coast College advisor for general advisory purposes.
