Engineering Project of the Year Awarded to Bear River Band and LACO Associates

(Eureka, CA – May 4, 2012) – The North Coast Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) awarded the 2011 North Coast Project of the Year to Bear River Band of the Rohnerville Rancheria’s (BRB’s) Tish-Non Village Phase I, designed by LACO Associates (LACO) on April 26, at their annual awards banquet.

Leonard Bowman, Bear River Band Chairman, Leonard Osborne, LACO’s President and CEO, and John Bergenske, LACO’s COO, were honored to accept the award. LACO recognized Chairman Bowman and his wife Elli for his vision, ambition, and persistence in seeing through one of the larger projects to be completed on the North Coast in some time.

The Tish-Non Village Phase I project represented significant benefits to the North Coast at a time of economic uncertainty. It included over a mile of new roadways and dry utilities infrastructure, 26 residential housing units, new water treatment and storage facilities, and wastewater treatment and disposal facilities which support Phase I development as well as their expanded casino and a new 5-story, 110-room hotel which are part of their Phase 2 project.

At its conclusion, the Tish-Non Village Phase I project represented over $14.5 million of improvements that were almost entirely designed and constructed by local North Coast businesses. This project achieved the Tribe’s goals of improving the quality of life for their tribal members, and being a valued economic contributor to the local North Coast community.

Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 140,000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide and is America's oldest national engineering society, according to their website, www.asce.org. The North Coast Branch of the ASCE is a local branch of the San Francisco section. It includes Humboldt and Del Norte counties.

Helping make a difference in the economy & environment

BKF recently won the surveying portion of the massive $103 million design-build contract for underlying construction in the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit commuter rail system . The initial railway segment will provide trains from downtown Santa Rosa in Sonoma County to downtown San Rafael in Marin. The project is expected to last 3 to 4 years, spurring much needed job growth in the construction industry. Learn more in the North Bay Business Journal  article.

Wheeler Zamaroni can offer a variety of locally recycled materials to the community. Among our recycled materials are recycled base and drain rock. Broken concrete and asphalt products are recycled at our location, in which we crush and offer as recycled base and drain rock. These materials can be used in various applications such as installing concrete, pavers, bricks or retaining wall blocks. Recycle boxes are available for drop off and pick up at your jobsite.
Another item Wheeler Zamaroni can offer is recycled gypsum. Last year we recycled 1500 tons of scrap sheetrock into agricultural gypsum, which is widely used as a soil conditioner and a calcium additive. Recycle boxes are available for drop off and pick up at your jobsite.
In addition to recycle base rock, drain rock and gypsum we offer organic compost. Recycled wood products and rice hulls are composted to make our OMRI Certified Wheeler Zamaroni Organic Compost, which is used to add valuable nutrients like nitrogen, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium to any existing soil. 707-543-8400
